Presentation of artworks @ Arci Gallery

Kote Sulaberidze, born in 1968, lives and works in Tbilisi. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Sulaberidze’s artworks reveal both a conceptual artist dealing with socio-historical remembrance and a traditional narrative painter. His works appear to be political rather than painterly phenomena.
Sulaberidze’s works have been shown in renowned exhibition spaces such as Prato in Italy, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, Finland, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, Serbia and the Guelman Gallery in Moscow, Russia. The artist participated in the Prague Biennale 4 in the framework of the Georgian Project.

Nino Sekhniashvili, born in 1979 in Tbilisi, Georgia, lives and works in Tbilisi. She studied at Department of Graphic Art at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, and at the Dusseldorf Art Academy, under Rosemarie Trockel. Sekhniashvili is an unconventional conceptual artist, who utilizes various media. She is primarily concerned with the questions of identity, helplessness, fear and humanity as compared with the questions of power and sexuality. The major theme of her works is interest in irrational depths. Banal and trivial situations are always in line with the irrational and ritual. Images are full of anonymous characters in trance, floating in abstract spaces. She is aware that people do not live in a vacuum, but are rather part of a specific social system, in which ideas can be realized only within the agreed framework. Sekhniashvili’s works reflect a desire to find a way to break through this system. Some of her works reveal a dialogue with the self.

Guram Tsibakhashvili, born in 1960 in Tbilisi, Georgia, lives and works in Tbilisi. He graduated from the State University, where he studied Physics. Tsibakhashvili took professional interest in photography in the 1980s. After several solo shows, he, along with the artists whose works introduced new trends in Georgian art (e.g. the 10th floor and the Generation of the 80s), presented his photographic series at the exhibitions arranged in the 1990s at the Tbilisi History Museum ‘Karvasla’ (Caravanserai). His photographs are characterized by a conceptual approach and confrontation with history.

Koka Ramishvili, born in 1956 in Tbilisi, Georgia, lives and works in Tbilisi. His works include drawings, video and installation. One feature that is common to most of Ramishvili’s works is their construction on the principle of counterpoint. ‘Pronostic Eventuel’ and ‘Drawing Lessons’ are built on the dialectics of the internal and external; ‘The Story of Caspar Hauser’ presents the picture of the world structurally divided into two opposite poles: the up and down, the right and left, the front and back; ‘The Change’ is about the conflict between the masculine and feminine. Social order is divided into these works in an open and closed, private and public history and everyday life. The binary model is illustrated in his works in an open way so that its elements co-exist rather than dominate each other. Since 1995 Ramishvili has been offered numerous grants and awards for his videos and photographs (Ministry of Culture and Education, Vienna; Academy Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart; Département des affaires culturelles de la Ville de Geneva). His works have been exhibited in various museums (such as Tate Modern in London, MAMCO in Geneva, Goethe Institut in Berlin, Russian National Gallery in Moscow, Fine Art Museum of Nantes) and galleries (Kulturmanagment Hausler in Munich, Guelman Gallery in Moscow, Newman Popiashvili Gallery in New York, etc).
